Job summary

Ministry of Justice in Manchester is seeking a Probation Services Officer to assess and manage the risk posed by people on probation, and to support Probation Officers in cases of varied risk. You will conduct visits, produce and maintain records, and contribute to accredited programmes while following service procedures.

You will work within PS and HMPPS values, supporting inter-agency referrals and safeguarding duties, with emphasis on pro-social modelling and effective decision making.

Qualifications

• Experience in helping or supporting people with social or personal difficulties.
• Ability to plan and coordinate work.
• Experience in motivating individuals or groups to change behaviour.
• Understanding of equal opportunities and diversity best practice.
• Awareness of offending factors and related support needs.
• Understanding of case management principles.
• Knowledge of risk management and impact on victims of crime.
• Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation in the workplace.
• Knowledge of the Criminal Justice System and Probation Service.

Responsibilities

• Undertake the full range of offender management tasks for low/medium risk cases and support high-risk cases as needed.
• Contribute to risk management plans and report changes related to risk of harm or reoffending.
• Carry out prison, home, or alternate location visits and prepare court reports as required.
• Provide cover within teams and deliver/co-lead accredited programmes as grade allows.
• Conduct mandatory alcohol and drug tests and follow medication procedures.
• Carry out safeguarding duties and promote pro-social behaviour and attitudes.
