Job summary

YardandGroom is seeking an experienced Stable Yard Manager to run a private yard and paddocks on a country estate near Henley-on-Thames. The role is hands-on and requires ownership of the yard, with proactive management and high standards of stability and welfare.

You will oversee day-to-day care, feeding, turnout, health monitoring and coordination with vets and other equine professionals, ensuring efficient operations and well-managed facilities on the estate.

Qualifications

• Experience managing a private stable yard and caring for horses.
• Knowledge of grazing management, paddock rotation, and field maintenance.
• Ability to drive a tractor and perform basic repairs and maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Day-to-day care and welfare of the horses.
• Feeding, turnout, bringing in and general stable management.
• Monitoring horses for health, soundness or behavioural concerns.
• Liaising with vets, farriers, dentists and other equine professionals.
• Managing vaccination, worming, faecal egg-count and routine healthcare programmes.
• Maintaining feed, bedding and other supplies.
• Ensuring horses are well-mannered and handled correctly.
• Maintaining high standards throughout the stable yard.
• Planning grazing and paddock rotation; monitoring field condition.
