Job summary

Mid Devon District Council in Tiverton, Devon, is seeking a Regulatory Officer for the Private Sector Housing team. You will inspect properties, advise landlords and tenants, and enforce housing standards to improve living conditions in the private rented sector.

The role requires knowledge of HHSRS, with training available for related powers; a proactive, collaborative approach is essential to deliver high-quality housing services.

Qualifications

• Experience or knowledge of private sector housing enforcement, including the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS). Knowledge of HHSRS 2, drafting statutory notices, providing remedial advice, and using emergency housing enforcement powers would be beneficial, although training will be provided
• This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about improving housing standards and making a positive impact within the community
• You will be a team player who is also able to confidently work alone; computer literacy is essential and IDOX Uniform knowledge is desirable (training can be provided)

Responsibilities

• Inspect residential properties to assess housing standards.
• Investigate housing complaints and assess housing conditions.
• Provide advice to landlords, tenants and homeowners.
• Take proportionate enforcement action to secure compliance with housing legislation.
• Support grant work, empty homes projects and housing assistance schemes.
• Collaborate with landlords, tenants and partner agencies.
