Job summary

Bromsgrove District Council and Redditch Borough Council are seeking an experienced Private Sector Housing Officer to inspect homes, assess hazards with HHSRS, and take enforcement action to improve housing conditions across Bromsgrove and Redditch. You will manage cases from inspection to enforcement, including preparing legal notices and evidence.

Qualifications

• Experience inspecting homes independently using HHSRS.
• Strong understanding of housing legislation and enforcement processes.
• Ability to prepare and serve legal notices, schedules of works, and evidence.
• Experience handling HMOs, disrepair cases, and energy efficiency work.
• Good communication, negotiation, and report writing skills.

Responsibilities

• Inspect homes and use HHSRS to identify hazards.
• Investigate complaints and breaches of housing law.
• Identify defects and recommend repairs or improvements.
• Prepare legal notices and enforcement documentation.
• Gather evidence and support penalties, appeals or prosecutions.
• Inspect HMOs and ensure licence conditions are met.
• Apply Housing Act 2004 and related housing laws.
