Job summary

Johnston Carmichael is seeking a Private Client Tax Assistant Manager to join our Dundee team. You will manage a portfolio of private clients, work with the Tax Partner and Senior Manager, and deliver compliance and advisory services.

You will supervise personal tax returns, handle HMRC enquiries, and mentor Tax Seniors. The role requires leadership, strong communication, and the ability to work to deadlines within budget, with hybrid working options available.

Qualifications

• Relevant professional qualification (CA, ATT, CTA, STEP)
• Strong leadership and communication skills
• Experience in private client tax or similar role preferred

Responsibilities

• Supervision and management of the personal tax return process.
• Involvement in written negotiations on HMRC enquiries.
• Oral and written communication with HMRC ensuring compliance with statutory requirements.
• Meeting deadlines within allocated budget.
• Billing and WIP management.
• Monitoring the tax compliance position using tax software and maintaining internal control records.
• Mentoring and training Tax Seniors and Assistants.
• Delegating work to Tax Seniors and Assistants.
• Providing regular constructive feedback to staff on their work.
• Liaising with the client service team and other disciplines to provide a coordinated service.
