Job summary

The Ministry of Justice is seeking a Non-Operational Supervisor to oversee prison workshop activities, provide structure and discipline, and ensure a work experience that mirrors employment outside prison.

You will supervise and develop prisoners, maintain security and quality, and handle administrative tasks such as attendance and wage logging. The role is rotational and requires strong safety compliance and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Induct prisoners to the workshop and train them in health and safety, COSHH, machinery and tools usage.
• Set work schedules and manage targets/quality standards.
• Supervise and manage prisoners safely with discipline and development.
• Log attendance and approve prisoner hours worked and wages.

Responsibilities

• Participate in the selection process of prisoners for the workshop.
• Induct prisoners to the workshop/area of work and train them in health and safety, COSHH, machinery and tools usage.
• Provide support for prisoners where required; tailor learning and training requirements to individual needs.
• Set work schedules and manage targets/quality standards, maintaining delivery of contractual arrangements.
• Supervise, manage and control prisoners decently, safely and securely whilst carrying out all activities.
• Maintain regular communications via radio net in accordance with Local Security Strategy (LSS).
• Request materials and estimate usage in order to meet work targets whilst providing quality assurance against product specification.
• Log attendance and approve prisoner hours worked and wages including recording piece work where appropriate.
