Job summary

Ministry of Justice in the United Kingdom seeks a Production Instructor - Enterprises to supervise prisoners in a specialist workshop, delivering supervision, knowledge and skills to help them gain nationally recognised qualifications and improve employment prospects on release.

You will train prisoners in health and safety, COSHH, machinery and tool usage, set work schedules, monitor targets and quality, and contribute to security and welfare processes within the establishment.

Responsibilities

• May participate in selecting prisoners for the workshop.
• Induct prisoners to the workshop; train in health and safety, COSHH, machinery.
• Provide support; tailor learning and training requirements.
• Set work schedules; manage targets and quality standards.
• Assess and evaluate prisoner skills to national qualification standards.
• Supervise discipline and development of prisoners.
• Maintain communications via radio per Local Security Strategy.
• Complete ACCT, VRIR, SIRs forms; contribute to IEP reports.
• Conduct a metal detector scan or rub down searches on entry/exit.
• Provide quality assurance against product specifications.
• Log attendance and hours; record piece work.
• Carry out fabric/tool checks; maintain machinery maintenance.
• Contribute to prisoner reports including parole planning.
• Update training records; regime monitoring information.
• Contribute to H&S risk assessments for workshop areas.
• Request materials and estimate usage to meet targets.
• Initiate product development reviews to vary work.
• Participate in self-audit and Service Delivery Indicators.
• Complete admin tasks to support workshop.
