Job summary

Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a bank Pharmacy Technician for its prison healthcare service at HMP Portland, with flexible coverage to build a pool of workers. The post covers dispensing, stock management and medicines administration to prisoners, on a seven-day rota, supervising dispensary assistants.

GPhC registration as a pharmacy technician is required, with National Security Vetting and proof of right to work in the UK. Prior prison or mental health pharmacy experience is desirable.

Qualifications

• NVQ level 3 Pharmacy Services or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Provide medicines management and optimisation services to the prison, with pharmacist support
• Administer medicines against valid prescriptions and check they are taken correctly
• Advise patients on the appropriate use of medicines and promote healthy lifestyles
• Dispense prescriptions and stock items
• Supervise dispensary assistants
• Carry out stock control, including top-ups, checking expiry dates and storage, and reporting deficiencies to the prison pharmacist
• Provide medicines administration at scheduled times as part of a seven-day rota
• Undertake medicines reconciliation for prisoners admitted to the prison
• Act as an accredited checking technician providing final dispensing checks
• Maintain high standards in the dispensary, clinics and on the wings, following all SOPs
• Assist the Senior Prisons Technician to write, update and monitor medicines optimisation SOPs
