The Mental Health Support Worker post sits in the mental health team at HMP Stocken, a Category C men's prison in Rutland, operated by Practice Plus Group's Health in Justice service. It is a full-time 37.5-hour role, Monday to Friday, with some lone working.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a mental health support worker.
• Willingness to train in mental health awareness, suicide, self-harm, ACCT procedures, health promotion and screening.
• Good interpersonal skills.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Good organisational skills.
• Ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

• Deliver immediate and ongoing care for patients referred to the mental health team.
• Support people to access care and treatment within the prison setting.
• Work independently, including lone working at times.
• Triage patients using decision support systems and refer to a GP or nurse consultation where needed.
• Deliver evidence-based interventions within the Practice Plus Group health care wellbeing model.
• Contribute to care and ACCT documentation for people at risk of self-harm or suicide.
• Undertake patient risk assessments and take professional action where behaviour, symptoms or illness risk self-harm or harm to others.
• Promote recovery and reduce the impact of mental ill health through holistic, individualised care.
