Job summary

Practice Plus Group's HMP Lancaster Farms is hiring a Bank Mental Health Nurse to work in the Mental Health team for a one-year post. You will carry out assessments, develop care plans and monitor medications for men in custody, within a multidisciplinary team.

Requires NMC registration and security vetting. Shifts run weekdays 8am to 6pm and weekends 8am to 4pm, with induction and development opportunities and on-site parking.

Qualifications

• Qualified mental health nurse with current NMC registration.
• Evidence of continued professional development.
• Face-to-face work with patients with complex mental health conditions in a prison setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Carry out comprehensive assessments and initiate and review care plans within a multidisciplinary team.
• Assess and treat patients who have trauma or distress.
• Assess health needs using an evidence-based framework and carry out risk assessments.
• Carry out medication rounds.
• Monitor therapeutic responses and side effects of medication, liaising with prescribers.
• Manage a caseload of patients, providing advice, support and information.
• Deliver non-judgemental care.
• Promote best practice and clinical supervision.
• Build links with partners and stakeholders.
• Share knowledge and skills to support safe care and strong teams.

Job description

Bank mental health nurse post in the Mental Health team at HMP Lancaster Farms, a category C prison run by Practice Plus Group, on a one-year basis. Core work is comprehensive assessment, care planning and medication monitoring for men who have often experienced trauma, with risk assessment and wing-based work. Shifts run weekdays 8am to 6pm and weekends 8am to 4pm at a site holding around 550 men. NMC registration and clearance through additional vetting and security checks are needed.

• Assess health needs using an evidence-based framework and carry out risk assessments
