Salary £28,860 per annum (£14.80 per hour)
You’ll run the print and design side of the business, turning customer briefs into finished work across digital print, garment printing, and a wide range of finishing. This is a hands-on, all-rounder role: one hour you’re setting up a run on the Xerox, the next you’re laying out a flyer in InDesign or pressing a batch of T-shirts. We’re looking for someone confident on the machines and capable in Adobe, because the two halves of the job feed each other, and the customers who walk through our door expect both under one roof.
- Operate our digital print production kit day to day, including full-colour SRA3 digital presses (for example Xerox Versant, PrimeLink or equivalent), producing everything from short-run business cards and flyers to booklets, brochures, and posters.
- Handle prepress properly: preflight customer PDFs, correct colour and bleed issues, impose pages for booklets and multi-up runs, and set up jobs so they come off the machine right the first time.
- Deliver fast design services for walk-in and business customers, from small tweaks and typesetting through to full layout and artwork from brief (flyers, posters, cards, menus, invitations, simple branding).
- Run garment printing jobs (for example DTG, DTF, or heat-press vinyl), including artwork prep, colour separation where needed, pressing, and quality checking.
- Operate finishing kit to a high standard: guillotine, creasing, folding, laminating, binding, and mounting, matching the finish to what the job needs.
- Manage the print job queue: quoting, scheduling, tracking work in progress, and keeping customers updated on turnaround.
- Maintain print and finishing machinery: routine cleaning, calibration, consumables management, and calling in service when needed.
- Keep colour and print quality consistent across jobs and machines, using proofs and reference prints where appropriate.
- Work closely with the retail team to handle walk-in enquiries, price up jobs, and hand work back to customers.
- Contribute to how we present the print side of the business: sample books, price lists, in-store displays, and occasional social content showing off finished work.
Skills and Experience Required
Skills and experience required
- Degree from University of the Arts London, or equivalent creative discipline (graphic design, illustration, printmaking, visual communication, publishing).
- Strong working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, in particular:
- InDesign for multi-page layout, typesetting, and print-ready artwork.
- Photoshop for image retouching, colour correction, and preparing raster artwork for print and garment.
- Illustrator for vector work, logos, and artwork destined for cutting, garment printing, or large-format output.
- Confident operating professional digital print machinery (for example Xerox, Konica Minolta, Ricoh or similar production presses), or a strong track record on comparable kit and the ability to pick up new machines quickly.
- Solid prepress skills: PDF preflight, colour management basics (CMYK, spot colours, ICC profiles), imposition, bleed and trim setup.
- Hands-on experience with finishing equipment, including guillotine, and a good eye for the difference between an acceptable finish and a properly finished job.
- Experience with garment printing (DTG, DTF, heat-press vinyl, or screen), or transferable skills and willingness to be trained up quickly.
- Organised, calm under pressure, and comfortable juggling several jobs and deadlines at once.
- Warm, clear communicator, able to translate what a customer wants into what the machines can actually deliver.
- Previous experience in a commercial print shop, in-house studio, or reprographics environment.
- Familiarity with wide-format or roll-fed printing (for example Roland, HP Latex, Epson, Mimaki) for banners, posters, and signage.
- Working knowledge of substrates and finishes: paper weights and coatings, board, vinyl, garment fabrics, and how each behaves in print.
- Experience with signage and display work (foamex, correx, acrylic, mounted prints, vinyl cutting).
- Basic photography and product-shot skills for social and marketing content.
- An active personal creative or making practice: your taste and judgement is part of what we’re hiring for.
