North Northamptonshire Council is seeking a Principal Transport Planner for a six-month temporary contract. This role involves leading sustainable transport initiatives and developing policies to address climate challenges. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in transport planning and project management, contributing to the Council's transport strategy.
Sitting within the Highways service of our Place & Economy directorate, this role is a key part of our Transport Strategy team. Working with public transport and sustainable transport officers, as well as other transport planning staff, you will develop policies, strategies, and investment schemes to help the Council meet its transport improvement goals while addressing the climate emergency.
You will lead the development and implementation of schemes promoting walking, cycling, and other activities (such as travel plans) to encourage sustainable travel options.
Educated to degree level or equivalent, you should have significant experience in transport planning or policy, particularly in strategy development and public consultation. Good project and programme management skills, along with experience in partnership working, are required. Experience with Local Transport Plans, Local Plans, or managing transport schemes/projects will be advantageous.
