Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Managing planning applications and development proposals across a variety of sectors.

• Liaising with local authorities, developers, landowners and other key stakeholders.

• Coordinating multidisciplinary teams to ensure projects are delivered effectively.
• Building and maintaining strong client relationships, providing commercially focused planning solutions.
• Supporting business development activities and identifying opportunities to grow the consultancy.

Are you an experienced town planning consultant looking to take the next step in your career? I am working with an established planning consultancy in Edinburgh that is looking to recruit a Principal Town Planner to join its growing team.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a specialist consultancy working across a diverse portfolio of development projects, providing strategic planning advice to developers, landowners, investors and property companies across Scotland and the wider UK.

The successful candidate will play a key role in managing projects, advising clients and contributing to the continued growth of the business, with the opportunity to take ownership of a varied workload and work closely with an experienced team of planning professionals.

The Role

As Principal Town Planner, you will manage a range of planning projects from initial site appraisals and strategy development through to planning applications, negotiations and determination.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Managing planning applications and development proposals across a variety of sectors.
• Providing strategic planning advice, undertaking site appraisals and assessing development potential.
• Preparing and reviewing planning statements, reports and supporting documentation.
• Advising clients on planning policy, development management and relevant legislative requirements.
• Liaising with local authorities, developers, landowners and other key stakeholders.

About You

To be considered for this opportunity, you will ideally have:

• Experience working within town planning, with the ability to manage projects independently.
• A background in planning consultancy or development management, with an understanding of the commercial property and development sector.
• Knowledge of the Scottish planning system and relevant planning policy advantageous.
• The ability to manage client relationships and provide clear, commercially minded advice.
• Excellent organisational skills and the confidence to take ownership of projects.
• A proactive approach, with an interest in contributing to the wider success and growth of the business.

RTPI Chartered Membership, or working towards chartership, would be advantageous.
