Job summary

Matchtech is seeking a Principal Thermal Mechanical Engineer for a contract in Cowes. The role focuses on thermal engineering and mechanical design within complex defence projects, with hybrid working and two to three days on site.

You will lead thermal activities, develop management solutions, perform analysis, and mentor engineers while ensuring compliance with standards and security requirements.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in thermal mechanical engineering or related discipline.
• Strong understanding of thermal analysis and mechanical design principles.
• Experience in defence, aerospace or regulated industries preferred.
• Ability to interpret requirements and develop practical solutions.
• Solid technical documentation and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead thermal mechanical engineering activities across project lifecycle.
• Develop and review thermal management solutions for complex systems.
• Carry out thermal analysis, calculations and system assessments.
• Produce engineering specifications, reports and design documents.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to teams.
• Support design reviews, testing and validation activities.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, suppliers and stakeholders.
• Ensure outputs meet standards, quality and security requirements.
