Job summary

The Principal Systems Engineer will join the Project/Systems Engineering function, providing expertise throughout the bid and full development lifecycle.

Key skills required for this role

Important: All applicants must be able to obtain Security Clearance with a minimum of 5 years UK residency.

Working: The role is office/hybrid based with occasional travel within the UK or abroad.

The Principal Systems Engineer provides expertise to ensure project and statutory requirements are met, focusing on system architecture, integration, cost, and manufacturing considerations.

This role involves applying technical knowledge, making independent judgments, and potentially acting as a project manager or mentor for junior staff.

Responsibilities:

• Lead project engineering efforts to deliver technically and commercially acceptable solutions.
• Ensure solutions meet customer, legislative, and business requirements.
• Design, develop, and support solutions in line with company processes.
• Support product certification and compliance.
• Manage system engineering tasks within schedule and budget.
• Generate and review user requirements, perform analysis, and develop system architecture and verification strategies.
• Maintain traceability of specifications and designs.
• Provide project progress reports and support bids with technical input.

Experience needed:

• Degree or equivalent in Physics, Electronics, Hardware, Computer Science, Software, or Systems Engineering.
• Experience negotiating system requirements with stakeholders.
• Technical leadership of multidisciplinary teams.
• Requirements management experience.
• Understanding of mechanical, electrical, and software engineering principles.
• Experience in Defence/Aerospace or safety-regulated environments is advantageous.
• Experience in Naval/Maritime domains is advantageous.
