Job Purpose
- We are seeking a Principal Sustainability Officer to support our Carbon Neutral Plan. Responsibilities include exploring the benefits of renewables and heat networks, developing policies for energy efficiency in homes and businesses, and assessing environmental standards in planning applications.
- This is an exciting opportunity to contribute during the delivery phase of our Carbon Neutral Plan. You will serve as a specialist adviser, helping to embed sustainability knowledge across the Council.
- Your role will involve securing funding, developing solutions, procuring and monitoring sustainability projects, and engaging with our Climate Network.
- You will enhance the Royal Borough’s understanding of sustainability issues, offering a significant opportunity for the right candidate.
Key Duties/Accountabilities
- Support the Head of Sustainability in leading the Council’s Our Greenwich’s Mission 10, focusing on climate action and environmental sustainability, aiming for carbon neutrality by 2030.
- Lead on assessing the performance of the Carbon Neutral Plan, including monitoring, reviewing strategies, and ensuring targets are met and strategies are updated as needed.
- Prepare comprehensive emissions reports (Scope 1, 2, and 3) with compliant governance; oversee development of management and reporting procedures for regulatory compliance.
- Manage, supervise, and develop team members and other staff involved in sustainability initiatives.
Essential Experience
- Experience in monitoring and reviewing a Carbon Neutral Plan.
- Proven ability to prepare emissions reports in accordance with governance standards.
- Experience in developing and delivering sustainability strategies and programs.
Essential Qualifications
- Relevant work experience; numerate and literate.
Additional Information
- Working hours: 35 hours/week.
- Hybrid role with 2 days in the office per week.
- Closing date: 12th May 2025.
