Job description

Job: Principal Sustainability Officer

Location: Central London

Salary: Negotiable DOE

Contract: 6 months

Hours: 37.00

IR35: Inside

Hybrid: Hybrid

Overview of the role:

To plan and oversee the delivery of the Carbon Neutral Plan (CNP), including its strategic framework, performance reporting, and stakeholder engagement.

To support wider Council services with expertise where needed.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Support the Head of Sustainability in leading the Council's Mission. Play an active role in tackling the climate crisis and improving environmental sustainability, in line with our commitment of being carbon neutral by 2030.
• Lead the assessment of the performance of the Council's CNP, including monitoring and reviewing the Council's strategy and action plan, ensuring the programme meets corporate targets and objectives, and is refreshed as needed.
• Prepare comprehensive scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions reports with compliant governance processes. Oversee the development of management and reporting procedures to ensure full compliance with relevant guidelines and regulations.
• Performance manage, supervise, and develop team members and any other staff allocated from time to time.
• Support and oversee the work of staff across the Council and external partners on sustainability issues when necessary.
