Principal Consultant - Carbon Pricing Policy, London

Role Purpose

We seek a Principal Carbon Pricing and Climate Policy Specialist to support business development and project delivery within our Policy, Strategy, and Economics Practice. Our team supports governments, international organizations, and development agencies in climate change policy and carbon pricing initiatives. The role involves technical expertise in climate mitigation policies, project management, technical delivery, business development, and mentorship of junior staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor market developments and shape business strategies to capitalize on emerging opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain high-level client and partner relationships to support new business acquisition.
  • Lead and contribute to complex proposals and project delivery, ensuring client satisfaction, timely completion, and high-quality outputs.
  • Mentor and manage team members involved in bids and projects.
  • Conduct technical work to support project excellence.
  • Participate in capacity building, workshops, and presentations.
  • Represent Ricardo at client meetings and conferences.
Key Competencies and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in scientific, engineering, environmental, legal, or economic fields.
  • Experience in business development and bid writing within a consultancy setting.
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary teams and large projects.
  • Proven experience working with clients like the European Commission, World Bank, and UK Government.
  • Deep understanding of climate change policies and global carbon pricing, with expertise in areas such as EU climate policies, international negotiations, and national initiatives.
Desirable Skills
  • Strong project management capabilities.
  • Fluency in English; proficiency in other European languages, especially Spanish or French, is advantageous.
  • Excellent communication, analytical skills, and team collaboration.
  • Commercial awareness and financial management understanding.
