Job summary

Barhale Ltd. is seeking a Discpline Head/Principal Engineer – Structural to lead complex design across regulated infrastructure. The role combines senior technical design with leadership, mentoring engineers, and shaping engineering standards.

You will act as a technical authority for structural design, guiding delivery on projects and tenders while upholding safety-in-design and governance practices. Strong BIM and digital design capability is essential.

Qualifications

Extensive structural design experience at senior/principal level.
Degree or equivalent in Structural Engineering (HND/Bachelor).
Chartered Engineer status.
Background in regulated sectors (water, rail, highways/bridges, oil & gas, nuclear).
Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
Experience with structural design software and BIM/CDE workflows.

Responsibilities

Lead the development of practical, efficient, buildable structural design solutions.
Review and approve design deliverables, DRAs, reports and specs.
Provide technical guidance and governance across projects and tenders.
Mentor engineers, cad technicians and graduates, ensuring quality and compliance.
Set and maintain structural engineering technical standards across live projects.
Champion safety-in-design and CDM 2015 duties.
