Advance your career as a Principal Structural Engineer with SYSTRA. We are hiring for our offices in Birmingham, York, Leeds, or Manchester, offering challenging and rewarding opportunities. With several landmark international projects, SYSTRA’s Buildings Team is expanding rapidly across the UK, Ireland, and globally. We specialize in Transport and Energy sectors, delivering projects such as passenger stations, rail depots, and energy-from-waste facilities. Main Duties

The Principal Engineer will collaborate with designers and contractors to:

• Develop design deliverables (drawings, reports, specifications).
• Liaise with construction teams to ensure designs are practical and cost-effective.
• Maintain hazard/risk registers for design packages.
• Coordinate with the wider design team to ensure consistency and quality.
• Implement innovative, value-for-money design solutions meeting project requirements.
• Prepare and review technical documents and reports; assist in tenders and expressions of interest.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental legislation, including CDM Regulations.
• Supervise and check the work of Engineers and Technicians; sign off design certificates.
• Design engineering solutions at various stages and present options.
• Support construction and resolve site queries and disputes.
• Deliver work on time, within budget, and to specifications.
• Mentor junior staff and support their development.
• Engage with clients and third parties effectively.
• Establish internal standards and promote continuous improvement.
• Contribute to the technical development of the office through new techniques and practices.
• Build strong client relationships.
• Manage project correspondence efficiently.
• Support the Discipline Lead/Team Leader as needed.

Profile/Skills

• Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering.
• Chartered with IStructE or ICE.
• Extensive structural design experience in large infrastructure projects.
• Experience managing teams.
• Proficient with BIM Level 2, Revit; knowledge of Robot, Tekla, Tedds advantageous.
• Familiar with Eurocodes, British Standards, UK Building Regulations, and Network Rail Standards.
• Capable of acting as Contractors Responsible Engineer (CRE) when required.
