Job summary

Glasgow Orthodontics in central Glasgow is seeking a Principal Specialist Orthodontist who will also serve as a Practice Clinical Lead. The role combines clinical delivery with leadership responsibilities in a modern 8-surgery practice serving NHS and private patients, with support from a treatment coordinator and an Orthodontic Therapy team.

The position offers clinical freedom, leadership duties, and a pathway to influence practice direction within Portman Group leadership structures.

Qualifications

• GDC Specialist Orthodontist background or equivalent

We are delighted to announce this unique opportunity for a Specialist Orthodontist to join us as Principal Specialist Orthodontist at Glasgow Orthodontics.

Glasgow Orthodontics is a modern, fully equipped 8 surgery practice offering a dedicated specialist orthodontic service to a country wide catchment area. One of Scotland’s most prestigious orthodontic practices, providing a patient and family friendly practice where excellent standards of patient care are at the centre of everything we do.

We now have an opportunity for an experienced specialist orthodontist who would like to also be a lead clinician in practice.

We can offer:

• A role with 2 elements to it 1) as the Principal Orthodontist 2) a formal Clinical Leader - which we call Practice Clinical Lead as part of the PortmanDentex clinical leadership team (see below for more details on PCLs)
• We offer full clinical freedom and the highest levels of patient care. The team work collaboratively to ensure a seamless patient journey
• We have fully equipped, modern purpose-built surgeries and the practice is based in central Glasgow with Glasgow Central station 5 minutes walk away and local parking options also available
• You will have the full support of a treatment coordinator and we have a large Orthodontic Therapy team should you wish to work with an OT
• We have fully qualified Orthodontic Nurses who lead our records clinics and will work closely with you to ensure you are supported and our patients receive the best experience

About the Clinical Lead Opportunity

Our vision is for each practice to be led in partnership by two critical roles:

• A high performing Practice Manager (PM) who focuses on financial, operational and people leadership and…
• A Practice Clinical Lead (PCL) who focuses on the clinical leadership of the practice, how clinical factors directly impact the performance and direction of the practice and who works with the Practice Manager.

We recently introduced the Practice Clinical Lead role into a number of our practices, to help us emulate the leadership that is lost when former practice owners either leave their practices or look to focus on wider interests. We’ve seen some impressive results from our first 35 PCLs, many of whom feel they have embarked on a whole new dentistry adventure through this opportunity.

Consequently, we are now recruiting new Practice Clinical Leads to help us achieve this same success across more of our practices.

The Practice Manager and Practice Clinical Lead work together as the practice leadership team to lead the practice and make it as efficient and successful as possible, while being a great place for colleagues to work and clinicians to practice and deliver high levels of clinical care.

Your key, high-level responsibilities as PCL will be to:

• Act as a clinical leadership figure in the practice alongside the Practice Manager, with the ability to influence the direction of the practice.
• Provide clinical focus and maintaining clinical standards.
• With our support, define the practice ambition and strategy.
• Mentor others and give them a clinical voice.
• Act as a cultural ambassador for the Portman Group as well as the practice.
• Provide a positive influence to all practice colleagues to support engagement.

ABOUT YOU

We’d love to hear from you if you are;

• Either; A GDC Specialist Orthodontist who’d like to be an associate OR a Specialist Orthodontist interested in our PCL opportunity
• To be a PCL; As well as being passionate about patient delivery you will have a keen interest in commercial / leadership side of practice and want to learn more in a supportive environment

What’s in it for you?

• A unique opportunity to gain exposure to the commercial and leadership aspects of a practice with support and development to help you realise your potential
• As PCL you would still treat both NHS and private patients on a self employed basis, but would also spend a small part of your week in an employed role for a leading dental provider. The PCL role will be distinct and separate from your Associate Agreement and would be circa 6 hours per week
• A guaranteed monthly salary for the duties carried out as Practice Clinical Lead in addition to your self employed package as Principal Specialist. The PCL contract also rewards you with a share of the practice profit, with no personal investment required.
