Job summary

AVEVA, a global leader in industrial software, is seeking a software engineer to lead the migration of legacy C++ systems to .NET-based cloud-enabled services. The role spans Linux and Windows, owning architecture from design to production delivery.

The ideal candidate has strong C++, C#, Linux/Windows, cloud architectures, and experience with CI/CD, Agile/Scrum, and mentoring engineers in distributed teams. Hybrid work in Cambridge supported.

Qualifications

  • We require proven hands-on experience with C++ and .NET (C#) in production environments.

  • We require a solid understanding of cloud-based architectures, distributed systems, and microservices.
  • We require a strong grounding in OOP, design patterns, and software architecture principles.
  • We require a demonstrable track record of modernising or evolving legacy codebases.
  • We require familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Azure DevOps, and Git.
  • We require experience working within Agile/Scrum environments.
  • We require the ability to produce clear system design documentation.
  • We value a background in high-performance computing (HPC) or numerical methods.
  • We value experience in scientific, industrial, or engineering software domains.
  • We value prior experience leading or mentoring engineers in distributed teams.
  • We value strong analytical thinking and structured problem-solving.
  • We value familiarity with cybersecurity practices in regulated or industrial software contexts.

Responsibilities

  • We lead the migration and modernisation of legacy C++ systems into .NET-based, cloud-enabled services across Linux and Windows environments.
  • We own system and component architecture, from high- and low-level design through to production delivery.
  • We establish and uphold engineering standards including code quality, TDD, and CI/CD practices.
  • We ensure cybersecurity compliance across both legacy and modernised systems.
  • We mentor and develop engineers within a distributed Agile Scrum team.
  • We collaborate cross-functionally with product, science, and infrastructure stakeholders.
  • We contribute to technical roadmap planning and architectural decision-making.
