Job summary

Amazon is seeking a senior engineering leader to own the architecture of a real-time middleware and controls platform spanning embedded devices and cloud services. You will guide data-exchange design, edge-to-cloud contracts, and roadmap decisions for industrial protocol support and device drivers.

You will drive multi-quarter strategy, ensure latency budgets and determinism, and mentor engineers while collaborating across hardware, security, and operations teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.
• Experience with full SDLC including code reviews, source control, builds, testing, operations.
• Experience leading architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling.

Responsibilities

• Own the architecture of the real-time middleware and controls platform across embedded/edge controllers and the cloud.
• Define the data-exchange layer, canonical type system, communication patterns, serialization, memory layout, schema evolution, and edge-to-cloud contract.
• Set technical strategy for industrial protocol support, new device driver development, and cloud integration.
• Drive multi-quarter technical strategy, roadmap sequencing, and build-versus-buy tradeoffs.
• Own real-time correctness at system scale, including latency budgets, throughput, determinism, and failure modes.
• Lead cross-team and cross-discipline efforts and align hardware, controls, security, operations, and other software partners around shared interfaces and contracts.
• Establish engineering standards for testing, benchmarking, operational excellence, and code quality.
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and contribute as a strong interviewer and bar raiser in hiring.
• De-risk the hardest technical problems, including new protocol integrations, performance-critical paths, and cross-language data exchange.
• Remain hands-on for the highest-impact technical challenges and bring them to a proven, maintainable end state.

Requirements:

• Experience as a mentor, tech lead, or leading an engineering team
• Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C# including object-oriented design
• Experience in professional, non-internship software development
• Experience leading the architecture and design of new and current systems, including architecture, design patterns, reliability, and scaling
• Knowledge of professional software engineering best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, software architectures, code reviews, source control management, continuous deployments, testing, and operational excellence
• Bachelors degree in computer science or equivalent
