Job summary

BAE Systems in Portsmouth or Glasgow is seeking a Principal Product Safety Engineer for a 12-month contract. The role requires applying safety processes, leading hazard assessments, and coordinating safety submissions.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of product safety management processes and techniques.
• Familiarity with standards such as DSA-02 / DSA-03, JSP430, Stan 00-056, Mil Std 882E or BS EN 61508.
• Defence sector experience is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Provide engineering support to TA teams to identify, manage, and mitigate hazards and risks.
• Coordinate and lead customer engagement workshops and produce safety evidence.
• Conduct product safety assessment for major subsystems ensuring risk is understood and managed.
• Lead SDSAs updates to support safety case refreshes and coordinate input from contributors.

Client: BAE Systems Job Title: Principal Product Safety Engineer Duration: 12 months Location: Portsmouth or Glasgow Hourly Rate: £60 PAYE OR £81.05 Umbrella Working Arrangements: 1-2 days on-site per week Working Hours: 37 hours per week

Key Responsibilities

• Provide engineering support and specialist expertise to the Combat Systems Technical Authority (TA) teams, assisting with the identification, management, and mitigation of the hazards and risks and contributing to the development and ongoing refinement of the hazard log.
• Coordinate and lead customer engagement workshops, agreeing evidence requirements, preparing evidence packs and producing the safety submission.
• Conduct the product safety assessment for major subsystems or key complex technologies, ensuring risk and understood and appropriately managed.
• Lead updates to domain System Design Safety Assessments (SDSAs) to support programme safety case refreshes, ensuring product safety risks progress to the required maturity levels, and coordinating input from relevant contributors.
