Job summary

Sweco UK is seeking a Principal Process Engineer to provide technical leadership across one of our four business units and support the Anglian Water @one Alliance AMP8 programme. You will guide process design teams, review critical documents, and ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards.

Based in Ipswich with hybrid work options, you will mentor junior engineers, drive design excellence, and contribute to innovative, low-carbon solutions for water infrastructure projects.

Qualifications

• Engineering degree required or equivalent experience.
• Chartered status or working towards chartership.
• Extensive experience in water sector, especially process design and capital delivery.
• Strong knowledge of regulations, standards and environmental requirements.
• Track record mentoring junior engineers.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the process design workflow to deliver projects on time, within cost, and to quality standards.
• Review mass balances, process sizing, hydraulic calculations, P&IDs, and process design documentation for accuracy and compliance.
• Check construction site design queries to maintain design integrity.
• Support Design Managers with planning and stakeholder engagement.
• Provide technical input for supplier contracts and deliverables.
• Champion health, safety, and welfare and ensure designs meet hazardous area regulations (DSEAR).
• Mentor and develop junior engineers; promote best practice.
• Embrace innovation and digital technologies to reduce carbon impact in design.
• Participate in Anglian Water initiatives such as HAZOPs and standards forums.
