Job summary

Energy Jobline CVL is seeking a Principal Process Engineer in Manchester to lead water and wastewater process design across projects, in a hybrid working arrangement, and to mentor engineers.

The role requires 10+ years in the regulated water industry, Chartered Engineer status, and a track record delivering plant design. You will review deliverables, perform hydraulic calculations, chair HAZOPs, and support tender submissions while driving improvements.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of process design experience in regulated water
• Extensive knowledge of wastewater treatment and plant design
• Proven delivery of process design on water/wastewater projects

Responsibilities

• Lead development of efficient, practical process design solutions for water and wastewater projects
• Review and approve design deliverables, reports, specifications, and DRAs
• Check and approve mass balances, process sizing, hydraulic calculations, and PFDs
• Review control philosophies and commissioning strategies
• Provide technical guidance across projects and support tender submissions
• Direct and mentor engineers and graduates
• Ensure designs meet technical standards and client requirements
• Lead HAZOP, ALM, KM, and other technical review meetings
• Estimate design hours and support project planning
• Drive continuous improvement in process engineering standards

Principal Process Engineer

Location: Manchester (Hybrid)

Salary: £65,000 - £80,000 (dependent on experience & working arrangements)

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development of efficient and practical process design solutions for water and wastewater projects.
• Review and approve design deliverables, reports, specifications, and DRAs.
• Check and approve mass balances, process sizing, hydraulic calculations, and PFDs.
• Review control philosophies and commissioning strategies.
• Provide technical guidance across projects and support tender submissions.
• Direct and mentor engineers and graduates.
• Ensure designs meet technical standards, professional guidance, and water company requirements.
• Lead HAZOP, ALM, KM, and other technical review meetings.
• Estimate design hours and support project planning.
• Drive continuous improvement in process engineering standards and practices.

Requirements

• 10+ years' process design experience within the regulated water industry.
• Extensive knowledge of wastewater treatment processes and plant design.
• Proven delivery of process design on water and/or wastewater projects.
• Chartered Engineer status (or near Chartered).
• Degree, HND, or significant practical experience progressing from technician level.
• Strong IT and digital capability.
• Experience across both clean water and wastewater beneficial.
• HAZOP experience (ideally as Chair) and tender support beneficial.
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
