Job summary

Kintec Global Recruitment is seeking a Principal Process Engineer for a permanent role in Manchester. The position focuses on leading design for water and wastewater projects, reviewing deliverables, and mentoring junior staff.

The ideal candidate brings 10+ years in regulated water process design, Chartered Engineer status or near, and strong IT/digital capabilities. Hybrid working and a salary of £65,000–£80,000 are offered, with responsibilities spanning technical leadership and tender

Qualifications

• 10+ years of process design experience in the regulated water industry.
• Chartered Engineer status or near Chartered.
• Experience in both clean water and wastewater design beneficial.
• HAZOP experience, ideally as Chair, and tender support beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of efficient and practical process design solutions for water and wastewater projects.
• Review and approve design deliverables, reports, specifications, and DRAs.
• Check and approve mass balances, process sizing, hydraulic calculations, and PFDs.
• Review control philosophies and commissioning strategies.
• Provide technical guidance across projects and support tender submissions.
• Direct and mentor engineers and graduates.
• Ensure designs meet technical standards, professional guidance, and water company requirements.
• Lead HAZOP, ALM, KM, and other technical review meetings.
• Estimate design hours and support project planning.
• Drive continuous improvement in process engineering standards and practices.

Requirements

• 10+ years' process design experience within the regulated water industry.
• Extensive knowledge of wastewater treatment processes and plant design.
• Proven delivery of process design on water and/or wastewater projects.
• Chartered Engineer status (or near Chartered).
• Degree, HND, or significant practical experience progressing from technician level.
• Strong IT and digital capability.
• Experience across both clean water and wastewater beneficial.
• HAZOP experience (ideally as Chair) and tender support beneficial.
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle preferred.
