Job summary

JPMorgan Chase & Co. in the United Kingdom seeks a Principal Software Engineer (Executive Director) to design, build and guide scalable, secure data-heavy platforms and APIs. You will own significant portions of the data access layer and contribute to enterprise AI-enabled development practices.

You will lead architecture, code reviews, and cross-team collaboration, while delivering production-ready code and ensuring system reliability across large data sets.

Qualifications

• Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts.
• Hands-on practical experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability.
• Expert in one or more programming language(s), preferably Java.
• Experience designing and adopting agentic AI-enabled development practices across teams with responsible AI governance.
• Experience delivering an internal platform as a product with consumption patterns and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Creates complex and scalable coding frameworks using appropriate software design frameworks.
• Defines and leads technology and process implementations across groups to achieve firmwide objectives.
• Produces architecture and design artifacts for complex applications and ensures design constraints are met.
• Develops secure production code and reviews code written by others.
• Architects and governs AI-enabled engineering workflows to improve delivery speed and quality at scale.
• Applies SDLC tools and enterprise AI-assisted development to improve automation value.
• Advises cross-functional teams on technological matters and serves as SME.
• Contributes to development of technical methods in line with product development methodologies.
• Influences leaders across business, product, and technology teams.
• Engineers the platform's query and data access layer, managing latency and data freshness as usage grows.
• Defines how SDLC controls and engineering workflows execute against real code structure and promotes adoption.
