Principal Planning Officer - Major Applications

My client is looking to source an experienced Principal Planning Officer to join their Development Management team in Staffordshire, focusing on a caseload of major planning applications.

This is an opportunity for an experienced planning professional to work on a range of new major applications, typically involving developments of between 50 and 150 residential units. The role will focus on managing applications through the planning process, with no management responsibilities or application sign-off duties.

Key responsibilities

• Managing a caseload of major planning applications, typically involving developments of 50-150 units.
• Assessing and progressing new major applications through the Development Management process.
• Reviewing planning submissions and assessing proposals against relevant planning policies and legislation.
• Liaising with applicants, developers, consultants and statutory consultees.
• Preparing planning reports and recommendations.
• Working collaboratively with colleagues to ensure applications progress efficiently and within agreed timescales.

The successful candidate will have strong Development Management experience, with a proven background in handling major planning applications. The ability to manage a varied caseload, assess complex proposals and communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders will be important.

This role would suit an experienced Planning Officer or Principal Planning Officer who enjoys working on major applications and wants to focus on casework rather than management or sign-off responsibilities. Hybrid working is offered, with an expectation to attend the office approximately one day per week.

The role is offered on an initial 6-month contract, working 37 hours per week, with a rate of £55-£60 per hour Inside IR35.
