Job summary

AtkinsRéalis UK Limited in Glasgow is seeking a Principal Nuclear Safety Engineer to lead safety-case activities for significant defence-related programmes. The role involves delivering safety-led design solutions, engaging with stakeholders, and producing safety-critical reports.

You will shape strategy, undertake risk analyses, lead teams, and collaborate across disciplines to achieve compliant, robust safety outcomes while working with flexible and hybrid arrangements.

Qualifications

• Honours Degree (2:1 minimum) in physics, mechanical engineering, or closely related discipline.
• Chartered or working towards Chartership status.
• Technical practitioner in Nuclear/Defence domains, with good engineering judgement and fundamental principles.

Responsibilities

• Shaping the nuclear safety case strategy for defence programmes.
• Ensuring safety-informed design in collaboration with project partners.
• Engaging with stakeholders (designers, client, site, regulator) to enable Right First Time delivery.
• Conducting safety assessments and analyses (HAZID, HAZOP, FMEA, HAZAN).
• Producing safety reports (PSR, PCSR, ALARP) and other technical documents.
• Supporting and leading Safety Case activities and teams.
