Job summary

The Economist Group is seeking a Principal Designer for Mobile Apps to own the end-to-end experience across iOS and Android. You will work with engineers, product managers and editors to elevate the craft and deliver features that readers rely on daily.

You will shape the design direction, maintain high visual and interaction quality, and contribute to the mobile design system while mentoring peers. This role champions accessibility, performance and cross‑team collaboration within a hybrid

Qualifications

Extensive experience designing consumer mobile apps at scale.
Strong portfolio of shipped mobile work across iOS/Android.
Proficient with design systems, accessible UI and cross‑functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

Set the design direction for The Economist mobile apps and elevate the craft.
Lead complex design problems with hands-on experimentation and prototyping.
Collaborate with engineering, product, editorial and brand teams to deliver outcomes.
Ensure accessibility, performance and coherence with the design system.
Mentor and develop other designers, shaping design practice and hiring.
Translate design decisions into measurable outcomes for engagement and retention.
