Job summary

The Economist is consolidating Product, Engineering, Delivery, Design and Quality into a single Technology organisation focused on durable, cross-functional teams. The Principal Designer, Mobile Apps will own end-to-end experience vision across the Economist apps, raising the craft of designers and working closely with engineers and product managers.

You will lead design authority for iOS and Android experiences, collaborating with Head of Product & Engineering, Apps and other stakeholders

Qualifications

• Experience designing consumer mobile apps for large audiences.
• Portfolio showing outstanding visual, interaction and systems design.
• Strong end-to-end product thinking from research to shipped outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Define and maintain a clear, evidence-based experience vision for the app portfolio.
• Hands-on design problems: frame, explore, prototype and design complex experiences.
• Ground design in evidence with user research, data and analytics.
• Own design quality across all shipped app experiences, including typography and copy.
• Shape and evolve the mobile design system with engineering partners.
• Champion accessibility and inclusive design across apps.
• Mentor and develop other designers and raise design practice.
• Translate design decisions into product terms like engagement and retention.
