Job summary

Energy Jobline ZR is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer for a leading mobility technology company in the United Kingdom. You will own mechanical design, thermal performance and the physical integration of complex electromechanical systems across the full development lifecycle.

You will lead mechanical design, validation, DFMEA and manufacturability, collaborating with electromagnetic and controls teams to deliver robust, scalable solutions for electrified propulsion and high-performance

Qualifications

• Strong experience in mechanical design of high‑performance rotating or electromechanical systems.
• Experience with thermal management and air‑cooled systems.
• Practical build, test and validation experience.
• Experience leading or contributing to FMEA and failure analysis.
• Engineering Degree or equivalent accreditation.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design and physical integration of complex electromechanical systems.
• Develop rotating assemblies, retention systems, shafts, bearings and housings.
• Ensure structural integrity during high-speed operation.
• Develop air‑cooled thermal management strategies, including airflow and interfaces.
• Integrate speed, position and temperature sensing solutions.
• Collaborate with electromagnetic and controls engineers to translate targets into manufacturable designs.
• Lead mechanical, thermal and dynamic analyses including stress, rotor dynamics and heat flow.
• Carrying out tolerance stack‑up and manufacturability assessments.
• Lead FMEA, failure analysis and corrective actions.
• Define and own test and validation programmes.
