Job summary

Matchtech Group in Coventry is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to deliver complex mechanical systems across the full lifecycle within a defence and regulated context.

You will define requirements, lead design reviews, and work with multidisciplinary teams to ensure successful integration, commissioning and customer acceptance. This 6‑month contract emphasizes hands‑on design leadership and stakeholder engagement.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience delivering mechanical systems through the full lifecycle.
• Strong background in design, integration, verification and acceptance.
• Experience producing engineering calculations, specs and design documentation.
• Clear understanding of requirements management and systems engineering principles.
• Ability to engage confidently with customers and technical stakeholders.
• Experience working in highly regulated environments.

Responsibilities

• Develop mechanical design solutions aligned with project timelines and budgets.
• Define and verify system, product and platform requirements and acceptance criteria.
• Support design, build, integration, installation and commissioning activities.
• Produce technical documentation including specs, calculations and diagrams.
• Maintain design evidence and traceability in engineering tools.
• Ensure compliance with safety, environmental and engineering standards.
• Lead design reviews and present solutions to customers and stakeholders.
• Support equipment, system and platform acceptance activities.
• Provide technical guidance across the engineering team.
