Job summary

Matchtech Group in Coventry is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to deliver complex mechanical systems across the full lifecycle within a defence and regulated context.

You will define requirements, lead design reviews, and work with multidisciplinary teams to ensure successful integration, commissioning and customer acceptance. This 6‑month contract emphasizes hands‑on design leadership and stakeholder engagement.

Principal Mechanical Engineer

Location: Coventry
Contract: 6-Month Contract
Hours: 37 hours per week
Working Pattern: Hybrid (2-3 days on site)

The Opportunity

We're looking for an experienced Principal Mechanical Engineer to support the delivery of complex platform systems within a leading Defence & Security organisation.

This role offers the opportunity to work across the full engineering lifecycle, from requirements definition and design through to integration, commissioning and customer acceptance. You'll play a key role in developing mechanical solutions for mission-critical systems while working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams and customers.

What You'll Be Doing

• Develop mechanical design solutions in line with project timescales, budgets and quality requirements
• Define, manage and verify system, product and platform requirements and acceptance criteria
• Support design, build, integration, installation and commissioning activities
• Produce technical documentation including specifications, calculations, diagrams and design justifications
• Maintain design evidence and requirements traceability within engineering management tools
• Ensure compliance with contractual, safety, environmental and engineering standards
• Lead design reviews and present technical solutions to customers and stakeholders
• Support equipment, system and platform acceptance activities
• Provide technical guidance across the wider engineering team
