Job summary

JAM Recruitment Ltd in Coventry seeks a Principal Mechanical Engineer (Platform Systems) for a 12-month contract, working onsite 2-3 days per week with the remainder from home. You will support Platform systems progression, develop design solutions, and manage requirements and acceptance criteria across systems, platforms or programmes.

CEng preferred, BEng/MEng in STEM expected. Role involves producing design documentation, ensuring evidence supports design reviews, and applying engineering

Qualifications

• Experience delivering mechanical systems through the engineering lifecycle.
• Experience applying technical expertise across the full engineering lifecycle.
• Knowledge of specifying mechanical equipment and components, preferably diesel generators and related systems.

Responsibilities

• Develop design solutions to meet time, cost and quality milestones.
• Manage requirements and acceptance criteria for a system or product across platforms.
• Understand contractual and performance requirements and support design through build, installation and commissioning.
• Produce design review documentation including diagrams, specifications, calculations and justifications.
• Ensure proving evidence is captured in requirements tools and endorsed at the appropriate authority.

The role:

The Principal Engineer- Mechanical Engineering (Platform Systems) shall provide engineering support to the local Team Lead and Engineering Manager to enable progression of Platform systems to the next design gateway review.

Tasks:

• Develop design solutions to agreed time, cost and quality in accordance with project or business milestones.
• Develop and manage requirements and acceptance criteria specific to a system or product and/or across a system of systems, platform or programme
• Understand the contractual and performance requirements for various systems, and support the definition and associated acceptance criteria and events through design, build, integration, installation and commissioning activities.
• Produce documentation required to support the design review process, including: diagrams; technical specifications; supporting calculations; design evidence and justifications
• Ensure design proving evidence is comprehensive, captured within the requirements management tools and has been endorsed by the appropriate level of authority

Skills:

• Demonstrable experience in the delivery of mechanical systems through the engineering lifecycle.
• Comprehensive experience of applying technical expertise across the full engineering lifecycle.
• In-depth knowledge and experience specifying mechanical equipment and components (preferably in the field of diesel generators and their associated systems)

Qualifications:

• BEng (Hons) / MEng or equivalent in a relevant STEM degree (expected)
• CEng or capable of achieving CEng (preferred)
