At Oxford Instruments, we enable the world’s leading industrial companies and scientific research communities to image, analyse and manipulate materials down to the atomic and molecular level. Our customers use our NanoScience ultra-low temperature and high magnetic field environments to go beyond what was once thought possible, whether that’s creating Nobel Prize winning materials or developing quantum computers to solve the world’s most complex problems.
We are looking for a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Customer and Sustaining Engineering team. Our products contribute towards the development of quantum computing, the study of dark matter, and the creation of new materials. If you have a genuine love of technology and an eye for quality design, then this is the role for you.
The opportunity
In this role, you will be technically responsible for ensuring that projects meet internal and external customer requirements. You will lead customer projects from design through to production in conjunction with the wider technology team, as well as providing technical support for the manufacture, installation, and support of our systems. As a principal, you will manage the analysis of designs through hand calculations and FEA, be involved in customizing standard products, and lead on the technical aspects using various engineering tools to make informed design decisions.
About you
You likely have a degree or higher in a relevant engineering or science discipline, with extensive relevant work experience, including working with complex systems or system configurations, ideally within a commercial manufacturing environment. Your ability to lead large projects, knowledge of FMEA and risk analysis, and familiarity with project management techniques are essential. You should have an excellent understanding of mechanical design principles and be capable of coaching and mentoring other team members.
In addition to a competitive starting salary, Oxford Instruments offers flexible working hours and a half-day on Fridays. We also provide 25 days of annual leave, private healthcare, a share incentive plan, a defined contribution Group Personal Pension Plan, and a flexible benefits package tailored to your needs. We invest in our talented employees by supporting their ongoing career development to help them reach their full potential. We care and work hard to provide a workplace where you can grow and learn.
