An established industry player is seeking experienced Principal Mechanical Design Engineers to lead the development of innovative mechanical solutions for complex weapon systems. Due to increased workload, we are looking for experienced Principal Mechanical Design Engineers to work across all areas of the Product Life Cycle, from Mechanical Future Concepts, Detailed Design and Qualification, to Production and In-service Support. In this role, you will lead the development of mechanical solutions for a wide variety of complex weapons and weapon systems, collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead the development of mechanical solutions across all stages of the Product Life Cycle, from concept to production
• Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver high-quality mechanical designs for complex weapon systems
• Take ownership of mechanical design work packages and provide leadership throughout the product development phases
• Engage in proving and qualification activities to ensure designs meet the required standards and compliance
• Use common development techniques like DFMEA, DFA, and DFM to enhance design quality
• Work closely with suppliers and internal teams to engage in design and development
• Adapt to cultural differences and lead diverse teams effectively
• Apply structural/thermal/dynamic analysis when required
The successful candidate will have:
• Degree/HND/HNC qualified with significant experience in Mechanical Design and Development
• Strong leadership skills and experience managing mechanical design work within a multi-disciplinary team
• Knowledge of proving and qualification activities
• Experience with DFMEA, DFA, DFM techniques for robust design
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to influence and negotiate
• Supplier engagement experience, with an understanding of multi-disciplinary collaboration
• A calm, professional manner, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
• Experience with structural, thermal, and dynamic analysis (desirable)
• Proficiency in 3D CAD/CAE tools (training on preferred CAE tools will be provided)
