Job summary

Matchtech Group’s client, a leading UK insurance and technology organisation, seeks a Principal Software Engineer to lead across enterprise platforms and customer-facing solutions. The role is permanent with a hybrid pattern, two days per week in an office in London, Bournemouth or Stockport, plus flexible working arrangements.

You will guide software delivery end-to-end, shape architecture and mentor engineers, collaborating with stakeholders to deliver scalable, secure systems using Java/JEE,

Qualifications

• Significant experience in software engineering for enterprise-scale Java/JEE applications.
• Recognised expertise in Java engineering, OO design and SOLID principles.
• Strong understanding of software architecture, systems integration and technology leadership.

Responsibilities

• Lead software delivery across the full development lifecycle to high standards.
• Provide strategic technical leadership across engineering teams and contribute to architecture decisions.
• Design and deliver integrated solutions across diverse technology landscapes while meeting security and operational requirements.
• Own complex technical challenges and drive resilience, scalability and stability of platforms.
• Drive continuous improvement through code reviews, governance and engineering best practices.
• Collaborate with architects, product teams, delivery managers and partners.
• Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
• Coach and mentor engineers to foster innovation and engineering excellence.
