Job summary

Skyscanner is seeking a Principal Engineer for Identity & Privacy to shape the technical foundations that earn traveller trust while enabling data and AI powered experiences.

You'll own the technical strategy for identity, consent and privacy across web, app and backend, leading cross-functional teams and delivering scalable, privacy-conscious systems that balance product needs with regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• Experience translating privacy and data-protection requirements into engineering decisions.
• Designed and operated large-scale distributed systems across identity or data platforms.
• Led technical change across multiple teams without direct line authority.
• Able to balance product value, traveller trust, privacy requirements, operational reliability and cost.

Responsibilities

• Define and communicate the long-term vision and roadmap for identity, consent and privacy engineering, aligning with product strategy and data/AI ambitions.
• Lead the approach to identity at scale, including consent-aware data processing across sessions, tracking, accounts and derived identifiers.
• Establish end-to-end identity and consent state flows from web/app surfaces to backend services and data pipelines.
• Translate privacy principles into reusable engineering patterns, platform controls and measurable standards.
• Partner with Engineering, Product, Legal, Privacy, Security and Data Governance to navigate trade-offs and drive decisions.
• Provide technical leadership for large-scale initiatives spanning consent platforms, privacy-safe experimentation and traveller-trust features.
