The London Borough of Newham is located only 5 miles east of London, with excellent access to major networks and public transport, including bus, tube, DLR, and Elizabeth Line. It hosts the London City Airport at Royal Albert Dock, has the youngest population in the country, and was a key borough for the 2012 Summer Olympics, containing most of the Olympic Park and the London Stadium. You will be part of the Highways and Sustainable Transport service within the Environment and Sustainable Transport directorate, committed to making streets safer and healthier, promoting walking and cycling, and improving air quality.
The Urban Design team, within the Planned Maintenance and Urban Design Team, is responsible for highways design and delivery of planned projects within the urban realm. As the Principal Highway Engineer, you will manage a team of engineers overseeing the design and implementation of highway projects across Newham, and participate directly in project delivery.
You should have the experience, skills, and knowledge to work effectively under pressure, independently and in teams, to deliver projects on time and within budget. Relevant experience should include highways design, site supervision, project management of highway, engineering, and traffic management projects, stakeholder engagement, and contract management. The ideal candidate will be approaching professional member status with an appropriate institution.
