About the role
Balfour Beatty is seeking a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to join their Power T&D team in Scotland.
Role purpose: To oversee design delivery and suitability for Power T&D construction projects, focusing on Overhead Line (OHL) foundations and geotechnical delivery. Collaborate with project teams, designers, and subcontractors to ensure safe and suitable scope of works aligned with project objectives. Provide advice on constructability and sequencing of civil and temporary works designs. Support geotechnical activities across various workstreams. Engage in bid development, tendering, and innovation projects with the Team Lead and Design Delivery Manager.

What you'll be doing:
• Lead and manage sections of the Geotechnical and OHL foundation design team.
• Coordinate the design of foundations and geotechnical solutions for OHL, Cabling, and Substation projects, from feasibility to detailed design and installation.
• Ensure timely and high-quality delivery of designs, reports, calculations, and drawings compliant with standards (BS/Eurocodes/ENA).
• Understand client requirements and contribute to pricing and design solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
Assess and identify design and temporary works needs, drive Safety by Design, lead civil project designs, ensure compliance with regulations, perform quality assurance, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, support tender processes, and contribute to team strategy and development.
Skills Required: Management skills, civil/geotechnical engineering education (degree or equivalent), Chartered Engineer status preferred (ICE or IStruct), extensive geotechnical design experience, proficiency in Tekla Tedds, and knowledge of Eurocode and British standards.
