Job summary

McLaren Resourcing is seeking a Principal Fire Suppression Engineer for Acton, London. You will lead design and delivery of Fire Suppression, Hydrant, and Dry/Wet Risers on a high-profile rail project. Salary £80,000 - £90,000 plus benefits.

This permanent, full-time role offers close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. We value extensive knowledge of BS9990/BS EN 12845, CAD/BIM proficiency, and a track record of delivering compliant rail fire protection systems.

Qualifications

  • Degree/HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field.
  • Membership of a recognised professional institution (IFE or IMECHE) is desirable.
  • Engineering Council registration (EngTech, IEng or CEng) is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and verification of Fire Suppression Systems to BS9990/BS EN 12845.
  • Review designs produced by MEP consultants and contractors for safety and buildability.
  • Develop Fire Alarm Cause & Effect documentation and manage third-party interfaces.
  • Support Engineering Managers with technical interfaces and project delivery.
  • Drive value engineering and standardisation across the project.
  • Liaise with accreditation bodies (BRE Global) to ensure certification compliance.
  • Provide technical support through procurement, tendering, construction and delivery.
  • Build strong relationships with clients, consultants, contractors and internal stakeholders.

Principal Fire Suppression Engineer – Location: Acton, London. Salary: £80,000 - £90,000 + Benefits. Job Type: Permanent | Full-Time.

Join a team delivering critical rail infrastructure. We are seeking a Principal Fire Suppression Engineer to lead the design and delivery of Fire Suppression, Hydrant, and Dry/Wet Riser systems on a high-profile rail project. This is an excellent opportunity to influence large-scale infrastructure while working alongside multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and verification of Fire Suppression Systems in accordance with BS9990, BS EN 12845, and other relevant standards.
  • Review and coordinate designs produced by MEP consultants and contractors, ensuring safety, compliance, constructability, and maintainability.
  • Develop complex Fire Alarm Cause & Effect documentation and manage third-party system interfaces.
  • Support Engineering Managers in resolving technical interface issues and ensuring seamless system integration.
  • Drive technical excellence through value engineering and standardisation initiatives.
  • Liaise with accreditation bodies, including BRE Global, to ensure compliance with certification requirements.
  • Provide technical support throughout procurement, tendering, construction, and project delivery.
  • Build strong relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
Leadership Responsibilities
  • Support the development and mentoring of engineering staff. Ensure mandatory training and competency requirements are met.
  • Promote compliance with health & safety, quality assurance, and information security procedures. Foster a collaborative, high-performing engineering culture.
Essential Skills & Knowledge
  • Extensive knowledge of Fire Suppression Systems and associated British Standards.
  • Strong understanding of both active and passive fire protection systems.
  • Proficient in CAD/BIM software for fire systems design.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and multidisciplinary coordination experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Qualifications
  • Degree, HNC or HND in Mechanical Engineering (or similar discipline).
  • LPCB Basic Sprinkler Design Competency.
  • Membership of a recognised professional institution (such as IFE or IMechE).
  • Engineering Council registration (EngTech, IEng or CEng) is desirable.
Experience
  • Demonstrable experience designing Fire Suppression and Hydrant Main Systems within the Rail sector.
  • Experience managing projects from tender through design, installation, commissioning, and certification.
