Join a Team Delivering Critical Rail Infrastructure
Are you an experienced Fire Suppression Engineer looking to lead the design and delivery of complex fire protection systems on major rail infrastructure projects? We’re seeking a Fire Suppression Sprinkler Design Engineer to play a key leadership role in the design, coordination, and delivery of Fire Suppression, Hydrant, and Dry/Wet Riser systems on a high‑profile rail project. This is an excellent opportunity to influence large‑scale infrastructure while working alongside multidisciplinary engineering teams.
The Role
As the Fire Suppression Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring technical excellence, regulatory compliance, and successful project delivery from concept through to installation and certification.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to the design and verification of Fire Suppression Systems in accordance with BS9990, BS EN 12845, and other relevant standards.
- Review and coordinate designs produced by MEP consultants and contractors, ensuring safety, compliance, constructability, and maintainability.
- Develop complex Fire Alarm Cause & Effect documentation and manage third‑party system interfaces.
- Support Engineering Managers in resolving technical interface issues and ensuring seamless system integration.
- Drive technical excellence through value engineering and standardisation initiatives.
- Liaise with accreditation bodies, including BRE Global, to ensure compliance with certification requirements.
- Provide technical support throughout procurement, tendering, construction, and project delivery.
- Build strong relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
Leadership Responsibilities
- Ensure mandatory training and competency requirements are met.
- Promote compliance with health & safety, quality assurance, and information security procedures.
- Foster a collaborative, high‑performing engineering culture.
Essential Skills & Knowledge
- Extensive knowledge of Fire Suppression Systems and associated British Standards.
- Strong understanding of both active and passive fire protection systems.
- Proficient in CAD/BIM software for fire systems design.
Qualifications
- HNC or HND in Mechanical Engineering (or similar discipline).
- LPCB Basic Sprinkler Design Competency.
- Membership of a recognised professional institution (such as IFE or IMechE).
- Engineering Council registration (EngTech, IEng or CEng) is desirable.
Experience
- Demonstrable experience designing Fire Suppression and Hydrant Main Systems within the Rail sector.
- Experience in projects from tender through design, installation, commissioning, and certification.
