Job summary

Draken is seeking a Principal EW Systems Engineer to join our Chief Technology Office and drive the design, integration and testing of sophisticated Electronic Warfare systems for airborne and ground missions. You will lead technical work packages, collaborate across Flight Operations, EW Operations and regulatory teams, and mentor engineers to uphold engineering excellence.

Qualifications

  • Degree in engineering or a closely related field.
  • Experience developing and testing Radar EW systems.
  • Strong understanding of EW technologies and military applications.
  • Knowledge of RF/microwave engineering and related disciplines.
  • Experience delivering technical work packages on time and to budget.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design, prototyping, integration and testing of EW mission systems.
  • Provide technical leadership for projects and work packages.
  • Support introduction into service and through‑life support of systems.
  • Develop system architectures, wiring diagrams, test procedures and operating instructions.

About The Role

Draken is seeking an experienced Principal EW Systems Engineer to join our Chief Technology Office and play a key role in the development of cutting‑edge Electronic Warfare (EW) and mission systems that support our Integrated Adversary Air Training services.

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled engineer to lead the design, development, integration and testing of advanced airborne and ground‑based EW systems. Working as part of an Integrated Delivery Team (IDT), you will provide technical leadership on innovative projects that support both internal programmes and customer requirements.

You will collaborate with stakeholders across Flight Operations, EW Operations, Part 21G and Part 145 organisations, ensuring mission systems are delivered safely, effectively and to the highest engineering standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design, prototyping, integration and testing of Electronic Warfare mission systems.
  • Provide technical leadership for nominated projects and technology work packages.
  • Support the introduction into service and through‑life support of mission systems.
  • Develop and maintain system architecture, design documentation, wiring diagrams, test procedures and operating instructions.
  • Work closely with operational and engineering stakeholders to ensure successful system delivery.
  • Contribute to customer and project review meetings, presenting technical solutions and recommendations.
  • Support the implementation and management of requirements‑management tools and engineering processes.
  • Identify opportunities for product, process and performance improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with engineering governance, lifecycle management processes and regulatory requirements.
  • Promote technical excellence through mentoring and knowledge sharing across the engineering community.
  • Support trials activities and occasional customer engagements within the UK and overseas.
About You

You are an experienced systems engineer with a strong background in Electronic Warfare and a passion for developing innovative defence solutions. You are equally comfortable leading technical activities, engaging with stakeholders and solving complex engineering challenges.

Essential Skills & Experience
  • Degree qualified in an Engineering discipline.
  • Experience in the development and testing of Radar Electronic Warfare systems.
  • Strong understanding of Radar and Electronic Warfare technologies and their military applications.
  • Knowledge of RF and microwave engineering.
  • Experience supporting trials and test activities.
  • Understanding of systems engineering principles and best practices.
  • Proven experience delivering technical work packages to time, cost and quality requirements.
  • Excellent technical writing, communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders and work effectively within a matrix organisation.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to engineering excellence.
Desirable
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status.
  • MEng or MSc qualification.
  • Understanding of military or civil aircraft certification processes.
  • Knowledge of air and maritime warfare environments and associated platforms.
