Job summary

Matchtech Group is seeking a Principal Engineer specializing in Traffic and Road Safety to lead and deliver high‑impact transport schemes in a London/Greater London setting. The role covers traffic management, road safety improvements, parking, walking and cycling initiatives within highway programmes.

You will provide technical leadership, analyse collision and flow data, manage budgets and engagement with TfL, residents and councillors, ensuring compliance with statutory procedures and CDM

Qualifications

• Significant experience in traffic engineering and road safety.
• Leadership within highways, transport or local government.
• Strong knowledge of traffic management, parking and sustainable transport.
• Experience analysing collision, speed and traffic flow data.
• Understanding TMOs, statutory consultation and legislation.
• Experience managing budgets, funding submissions, risks and contractors.
• Excellent communication for public consultation and councillor correspondence.
• Ability to lead, supervise and mentor staff, promoting equality and safety.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and delivery of traffic management, road safety, casualty reduction, traffic calming, parking, walking, cycling and highway improvement schemes.
• Analyse collision, speed, traffic flow and other technical data to identify issues and develop suitable engineering interventions.
• Manage projects from feasibility and design through consultation, statutory processes, construction and post-implementation review.
• Prepare and review engineering designs, drawings, specifications, cost estimates, business cases and technical reports.
• Manage TMOs and associated statutory procedures, ensuring compliance with legislation, standards and processes.
• Manage project budgets, risks, resources, programmes, funding submissions, governance and audit trails.
• Procure and manage consultants, contractors and specialist services, including contract performance, quality, final accounts and CDM requirements.
• Lead stakeholder engagement with utility companies, statutory undertakers, Transport for London, residents and councillors, while preparing senior management briefings.
