Job summary

Barclays is seeking a Principal Engineer – Technology Standards & Patterns to define and evolve technology standards, reusable patterns and guardrails across PBWM. You will translate strategic technology direction into practical reference implementations and engineering guidance adopted by multiple domains.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in senior technical leadership roles (Principal/Lead Engineer or Architect).
• Deep expertise in distributed systems, API-led and event-driven architectures.
• Proven track record defining and implementing enterprise-wide technology standards.
• Strong understanding of integration models, resilience engineering, security controls, IAM and risk.
• Experience translating architecture direction into practical adoption across teams.
• Ability to influence technology direction across multiple domains without direct authority.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication with engineers, risk and business.
• Experience in large, regulated financial services environments.
• Passion for simplification, reuse, consistency and scalable engineering practices.

Responsibilities

• Define and evolve technology standards, design patterns and guardrails.
• Create reusable reference implementations and blueprints.
• Partner with engineering teams to ensure standards are practical and scalable.
• Act as a trusted advisor on technology patterns and adoption.
• Champion standards adoption across PBWM via patterns and guidance.
• Lead cross-PBWM technical leadership on reuse and architecture standards.
