Job summary

Barclays is seeking a Principal Engineer – Technology Standards & Patterns to define and evolve technology standards, patterns and guardrails across PBWM. You will translate strategy into practical reference implementations and act as a trusted advisor to engineering teams.

The role emphasizes architecture enablement, governance and cross-PBWM collaboration to ensure security, resilience and scalable engineering practices in a complex financial services environment.

Qualifications

• Significant experience as a senior technical leader in distributed systems and modern integration patterns.
• Proven ability to define and implement enterprise-wide technology standards and guardrails.
• Strong understanding of API-led architectures, event-driven design and cloud-native approaches.
• Knowledge of security controls, IAM and operational risk considerations within regulated environments.

Responsibilities

• Define, maintain and evolve technology standards, design patterns and guardrails across PBWM.
• Translate architecture principles into practical guidance and reusable reference implementations.
• Act as the senior technical authority for patterns and implementation approaches across PBWM.
• Collaborate with Architects, Platform Engineering, Security and Risk teams to embed governance.
