Job summary

JAM in Coventry is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer for a 6-month contract with 2-3 days on site. The role centers on supporting Platform Systems and progressing designs to the next gateway review.

Responsibilities

• Develop design solutions to meet time, cost, and quality milestones.
• Manage requirements and acceptance criteria for a system or product.
• Understand contractual and performance requirements across design, build, integration, installation and commissioning tasks.
• Produce documentation for design reviews (diagrams, specifications, calculations, evidence).
• Ensure design proving evidence is complete and endorsed by the appropriate authority.
• Ensure compliance with contractual, safety, environmental and company processes and documentation.
• Conduct design reviews and present to customers.
• Provide technical support for performance and acceptance activities, including supplier handover to customer acceptance.
• Review supplier documentation and capture it properly.
• Assist with estimates for scope, resources, bids and project planning.
• Support Certificate of Design activities and communicate complex technical arguments clearly.
• Deliver technical input to build activities, defect resolution, and change management.

Principal Mechanical Engineer - 3 positions available

6 month contract - Initial Term

2-3 days on site - Coventry

£57.97 per hour (inside IR35)

The Principal Engineer– Mechanical Engineering (Platform Systems) shall provide engineering support to the local Team Lead and Engineering Manager to enable progression of Platform systems to the next design gateway review.

The Principal Engineer shall be responsible for the creation and review of pieces of analysis and engineering deliverables associated with their systems.

The Principal Engineer shall be responsible for developing and maintaining the local project plan and schedule project activities, while managing the resolution of any related project or engineering issues.

Typical duties include

• Develop design solutions to agreed time, cost and quality in accordance with project or business milestones.
• Develop and manage requirements and acceptance criteria specific to a system or product and/or across a system of systems, platform or programme
• Understand the contractual and performance requirements for various systems, and support the definition and associated acceptance criteria and events through design, build, integration, installation and commissioning activities.
• Produce documentation required to support the design review process, including: diagrams; technical specifications; supporting calculations; design evidence and justifications
• Ensure design proving evidence is comprehensive, captured within the requirements management tools and has been endorsed by the appropriate level of authority
• Ensure compliance against contractual requirements and that work is undertaken in accordance with company, safety, environmental, contractual and local business processes, standards, procedures and documentation.
• Undertake design reviews and presentations to customers.
• Provide technical support to integrated performance and acceptance activities, including acceptance of equipment from suppliers through to system acceptance by the customer
• Review relevant supplier documentation and ensure it is captured and recorded appropriately.
• Support the development of estimates for the scope of work and resources required to deliver it in order to support bids, proposal development and project planning activities for various systems.
• Provide support to the Certificate of Design activities appropriate to the discipline and articulate and present complex technical argument clearly, logically and simply.
• Deliver technical input and engineering solutions in support of build activities, defect resolution and change management

Knowledge:

• Demonstrable experience in the delivery of mechanical systems through the engineering lifecycle.
• Comprehensive experience of applying technical expertise across the full engineering lifecycle.
• In-depth knowledge and experience specifying mechanical equipment and components (preferably in the field of diesel generators and their associated systems)
