Marlin Selection Recruitment partners with a leading global financial markets organisation seeking a Principal Engineer to lead the architecture, design, and delivery of a next-generation trading desktop platform in London.

This hands-on, player-coach role combines technical leadership with strategic governance, mentoring engineers and collaborating with offshore and global teams to deliver scalable, low-latency front-office systems.

Qualifications

10+ years in front-office trading tech within financial markets.
Proven track record leading engineering teams.
Strong end-to-end SDLC expertise.
Experience with AI-enabled development tools.
Excellent communication across global organizations.
Degree in CS/Engineering/Math/Physics.

Responsibilities

Lead technical architecture, design, and hands-on development of a strategic trading desktop platform.
Own a greenfield technology programme, delivering scalable solutions.
Define architectures meeting performance, security, fault tolerance, and isolation.
Navigate enterprise frameworks while delivering business outcomes.
Mentor engineers across distributed teams.
Promote best practices for AI-assisted software development and code reviews.
Communicate decisions and risks to stakeholders.
Drive continuous improvement and architectural evolution.
